• LISBON HOLIDAY REVIEWS

Lisbon
A vibrant mix of old and new, the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, has undergone a rejuvenation in recent decades making it an exceedingly pleasant holiday or weekend get-away destination. A busy city with a provincial atmosphere, Lisbon offers entertaining historic and modern sight-seeing, a chilled “café culture”, and some lovely beaches and forests within easymore
Lisbon is very nice - Kevin DeGroat. Date of travel: Oct 2008
The downtown area of Lisbon is lively and fairly easy to get to, although there was something wrong with the underground when I was there, so I took taxis. Interesting night life, lots of restaurants and shops, pedestrian friendly and beautiful weather.
Alfama is a great district - Andy. Date of travel: Sep 2008
The old part of Lisbon called Alfama was what I liked best. I like a lot traditional music, and Alfma is the place where Fado, a kind of Portuguese blues, was born. You can go to small taverns and listen to old people sing just like they did a hundred years ago. but the rest of the city is also great, really gives you the feeling that you're in an ancient capital.
A magic bar to suggest in Lisbon! - Silvia. Date of travel: Apr 2008
It is called Chapito',it is on the top of the hill of Alfama, next to the San Jorge Castle. Any taxi driver will be able to get you there. The view is just breathtaking! Absolutely magic! Often you will also find jewellery or other goods expositions and some artistic exhibitions which contribute to make this place quite hippy-chic. Lovely food and drinks in the top floor restaurant. Fish is fresh and extremely affordable and they also offer the typical Portuguese dish, the bacalhau (codfish), in many different versions. Downstairs nice tapas are available to accompany your drinks. The local drink a glass of Amendoa Amarga, a sweet almond liquor similar to Amaretto di Saronno, or a jinjinha, a cherry liquor. Enjoy it!
Lisbon Holiday - Paul Dicks. Date of travel: May 2007
Lisbon has the perfect mix of the old and the new. Cutting edge fashion and design stand shoulder to shoulder with traditional music and food. The Alfama district in the city is one of the older neighborhoods in the city and has a large concentration of bars and clubs as well as shops. The nightlife is fairly low key with lots of people spilling out of the tiny bars onto the streets. Check out the castle for great views across the city and ask for the convent restaurant for a cheap lunch with awesome views across the harbour.
Lisbon - an architectual masterpiece - Anne Smith. Date of travel: Sep 2004
Lisbon, set on seven hills has some of the most beautiful buildings in the world. I wandered through the streets fascinated by the level of artistry and work put into each building. The city also has many churches, each one magnificent both inside and out! Tour Operator: Airtours
