Dakar
The French-inspired capital of Senegal, Dakar is an extremely attractive city of wide tree-lined boulevards, grand colonial buildings, luxury hotels, vibrant nightlife and a busy port frequented by cruise liners. It may be a lively modern city today, but there is a dark side to be explored by those on holiday in Dakar: a fewmore miles off-shore is the island of Goree, once a holding point for shackled slaves due to be shipped off to the Americas, now preserved as an historic monument.
