Kruger National Park
For a safe safari holiday there is no better destination than South Africa’s renowned Kruger National Park, where viewing the “Big Five” (elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo, and lion) is virtually guaranteed. After a day spent driving through the vast park, overnight human sanctuary is provided in one of several fenced rest camps, where the barbecuesmore
Kruger Park rip-off - Mr Very Annoyed . Date of travel: Feb 2011
The new South Africa, 40 Rand entrance fee per person for South Africans and 180 Rand per person not South African!!! Have they not learnt anything over the last 100 years about discrimination? Is this really the message they want to give the rest of the world?
Backpacking Kruger - Chad. Date of travel: Jun 2008
Rented a car to Kruger National Park with a few other travelers I met at a backpacker in Nelspruit. We camped in the park. We didn't make reservations so we could only get squeezed in for one night. We took the morning walking tour, which was cool to actually set foot on the ground with the animals. We saw plenty of animals and dug it. We all felt a bit disconnected being restricted to the car.
Amazing Experience - US Traveller. Date of travel: Oct 2007
I never dreamed how amazing a safari would be. I hoped to see some animals, but had no idea how much we would see or how close. We literally were roared at by a lion. Everyone should experience this at least once. I favour the private lodges along the edge of the park for a more personal experience. Ngala, in particular, was worth every penny. Excellent treatment and staff. I would strongly advise travellers to use reputable agents.
I love Kruger National Park - Martina. Date of travel: Mar 2006
Kruger National Park is one of my favourite places in the whole world. I love the feeling you get once you go through the gates, take your seatbelt off and immediately start looking around and you always forget how beautiful it is. Once I saw a leopard crossing the riverbed after being inside for only two minutes! Skukuza is a good base, but Olifants and Letaba are the most beautiful camps because of their views onto the river valley and open veld respectively. Its a good idea to pack a coolerbag for lunch where you can stop off at one of the many picnic spots alonside the road and relax, at some of them you can hire a gas cooker for around R20 and cook up your own brunch or whatever you wish! Kruger National Park is a treat, to see the elephants and giraffes close up is an unforgettable experience, nevermind the graceful lions and leopards. Kruger National Park is a place that every nature lover should experience, at least once in their lifetime.
Kruger day trip - Daniel Henry. Date of travel: Jan 2006
Kruger day trip
The Kruger is a great way to see a lot of animals - its bursting with wildlife and birds and the roads are excellent so any type of vehicle will do. I recommend staying in nearby town of Hazyview (plenty of good backpackers such as the Big 5 Backpackers), as well as B&Bs and you are close enough to do a day trip - it costs R30 per person to get in for the day. Several problems with the Kruger though - this is not private game viewing, any animal that is of interest to tourists such as lions(forget the humble impala or wildebeest), will be ringed by cars and idiots with large cameras will ramp in front of you to get that Kodak moment. It does make game spotting easier (spot the cars, not the game first), but one doesnt get the chance to peacefully watch the animals do their thing. Idiots also insist on driving way above the speed limit and hanging various body parts or children out their windows... No wonder tourists get attacked by wild animals - they're sick of the stupid behaviour!! Due to its popularity, the bigger rest camps such as Skukuza are packed and makes getting a snack a slow process, and finding parking a joke. Lovely views over the river, though beware of bees looking for sugary cooldrink - I nearly swallowed one that had landed in my Sprite - luckily i felt it in my mouth and rather inelegantly spat it out before it stung me! Remember to look up under the thatched shade coverings- hundreds of fruit bats resting for the day, quite a sight! The Kruger is a must-see, but if you can afford it, a private park is ten times the experience!! Tour Operator: own

Kruger National Park is something else! You don't need a guide to find wildlife, you just need a rental car. You don't need a travel company to arrange accommodations, Kruger does it for you. Just contact the Kruger National Park office via the internet, and tell them your proposed itinerary; they will arrange it for you. You plan your itinerary by visiting the Kruger website which describes all the facilities in detail. You get maps and information at the gate. Bring a ton of film. If photosafaries and rubbing elbows with African mammals, birds and reptiles is your thing, prepare yourself for the trip of a lifetime.Reserving a place in the national park trucks for viewing animals is not necessary, only your own car is needed.
