Lome - what a little capital but interesting for a couple days. I noticed that every block has a non-aggressive resident crazy person. Visit the beach but beware of poop in the morning. I stayed at Hotel Nouvelle Liberty, a good bargain with a small patio in the back. The clientele are business men from the surrounding West African countries. A very low budget but good for the price is Hotel Kakaraka in Hanicopi, Lome. It is 2 blocks from train tracks. Here is a good place to get visa's because Benin does not have many consulates for tourists.

We stayed at Chez Alice just outside Lome`, the capital of Togo. While the city is a bustling blur of people and traffic similar to many west african countries the area around Chez Alice feels like a peaceful haven despite being located next to the main highway. We used Lome` as a base to explore this small country, heading up into the lush green scenery of the coffee triangle. The mountains rise above the coffee fields and the humidity leaves you perpetually damp, but the beauty of the surroundings will leave you breathless. After exploring we went back to Lome before heading along to stay at Auberge du Lac on the shores of Lake Togo. Very basic facilities along with intermittent water and electricity meant that this was not the most luxurious place but we were lucky enough to be there while a wedding was on so we got caught up in some local hospitality. The lake is stunning and there is a ferry across to the other side daily. This is voodoo country so there is no shortage of places to buy the requisite gifts.
