Kiev
With a skyline defined by the golden domes of numerous churches and monasteries, the streets of Kiev, one of Europe’s oldest cities, exude a sense of permanence. It has stood here for centuries, its fortunes rising and falling, but today Kiev exists as a striking modern city which preserves its past, to the delight andmore
A well-kept gem Kiev & Lviv - Michael Hleis. Date of travel: Oct 2007
If you are young single & looking for fun and possibly romance, then I guarantee you will not have more fun anywhere else than Kiev. Also while enjoying the breathtaking nightlife and the many daily concerts in the main square which attract a great crowd, you can also take in the great historical sights and museums and get great bargains shopping-wise. If you are a lover of art, culture, historical museums, great architecture and have already been to Prague, Budapest and Krakow then your next stop has to be Lviv (or Lvov), a city across the border from Krakow in Ukraine. Avoid travelling in winter as it is freezing and can get up to -35 degrees celcius. Spring & Summer are best. (Apr-Sept). My advice is stay in an apartment on Kretchatek St (the main st in Kiev) & go through a reputable agent, as many people don't get the apartment they think they booked initially. Also be careful with displaying expensive jewellery around as people can watch you and follow you to where you live and eventually rob your apartment. Beware of unbelievable taxi prices and call to book reputable taxi companies instead. Otherwise if you are a smart traveller, you will feel safe and have no problems. I have been there now 3 times in the last 18 months and will keep going back for more. Add to that I am now engaged to a gorgeous wonderful Ukrainian girl.
