St. Louis is a Great Family Trip - Former St. Louisan. Date of travel: Mar 2009
I lived in St. Louis for almost 4 years. It is a wonderful town filled with activities for families. I have recommended St. Louis as a vacation spot many times because of the amount of free entertainment. I couple of families have followed my advice and absolutely loved it. Free venues (at least when I lived there) were: Grants Farm - Sort of a free range zoo with a safari like tram ride. It is free, owned by the Busch family. You also get two really awesome samples of Anheuser Busch products. Zoo - Yes the zoo is free. Parking is not. But who cares when the zoo is free? Science Center - The Science Center on the other side of 64/40 from the Zoo is also free. There is a charge for special exhibits and also for the planetarium/Imax if I remember correctly. Muny - The Muny is an outdoor ampitheatre with a range of shows and is free if you sit on the lawn in the back. You can also bring in your own food. Museums - Some are free some aren't check for details. Fair St. Louis - July 4th weekend the city puts on a free downtown fair. Yes FREE! Complete with fireworks. Parks - There are many nice parks in St. Louis. Other Non-Free Attractions: The Magic House - Hands down the best Children's museum I've ever been to. And I've been to a lot of them. Busch Stadium - What's a trip to St. Louis without a ball game? The Butterfly House - An indoor butterfly garden. The Hill - Great food in this Italian-American area of town. Rigazzi's is the best. Try St. Louis style Pizza and Toasted Ravioli. Krieger's Bar and Grill - Best Burger and fries in town! Okay this is too exhausting. There is much more even around and outside the city. Like St. Charles (great to visit around Christmas) You get the idea. GO TO ST. LOUIS!

St. Louis is hot in the summer! - Valerie Mellema. Date of travel: Jun 2006
I have been to St. Louis a few times in my life. The most recent trip was a couple of years ago when we went to a St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs baseball game in June. It was so hot! I don't recommend going if you're on a tight budget, because you’re going to spend a lot in beverages, mainly water and snow cones! No beer at this game because you're going to be dehydrated before the game starts. The game was great and the Cubs won! Before the game we stopped at the Arch and took pictures. It's really amazing to see in person. St. Louis is such a large city and the Arch looms over the entire city and the Mississippi River. Busch Stadium is also unique because it creates a perfect picture frame for the Arch in the background. Perhaps the coolest thing about St. Louis was the Budweiser Factory. You can tour it and see how they make their beer. You also get to see the Budweiser Clydesdales. They are truly beautiful and, yes, they really do have Dalmatians there! The dogs hang out with the barn managers and follow them and the horses all around. At the end of the tour, you get to go to the hospitality room and try samples of the freshest beer there is.
