Albuquerque
Famous for its annual hot air balloon fiesta, Albuquerque, spread across the desert plains of New Mexico, can be appreciated on the ground too, at any time of year. The core is an historic Old Town, where museums, galleries and shopping centres fill the space where Spanish colonists first put down roots in 1706. Formore
Albuquerque is well worth a visit! - Margaret . Date of travel: Jan 2010
Albuquerque is reportedly the 2nd most reasonable US city for a vacation and I certainly found it to be reasonable, compared to other US cities. I'd recommend a car to best see Albuquerque & the surrounding areas. Must visit: Sandia Peak Cableway, the Petroglyphs, Old Town Plaza (check out the turquoise/silver jewellery on sale by the vendors-although it's cheaper in Santa Fe outside the Palace of the Governors!). The Museum of Art and History was fantastic, just behind Old Town Plaza. The Indian Pueblo Cultural Centre deserves a visit. Take a trip along the Historic Route 66. Even the large Coronado Mall is a good destination if you feel like some retail therapy!! Take the Turquoise Trail on a day trip to Santa Fe, it's well worth it. I cannot wait to return to New Mexico and spend more time there. October is recommended as the best time to visit.
Albuqurque features a lot of unique - Valerie Mellema. Date of travel: Nov 2008
Albuquerque is only about 4 hours away from where I live and we go through it pretty frequently, especially when we're on our way to Las Vegas. Albuquerque is well-known for the casinos that lie on the outskirts of it. These are all Indian casinos, so unlike the ones in Vegas, you don't get free drinks for gambling with them. They are typically all slot machines and blackjack, but if that's what you like then it can be a lot of fun. Sometimes there are older bands that tour at these casinos as well. Downtown you'll find a lot to do. There's a lot of Native American art shopping available during the day and they have a 6th street for nightlife. Many of the bars in older buildings and some are even multi-leveled. On the outskirts of town, there are several Native American ruins as well. You can see petroglyphs on the side of rocks and there's a lot of hiking trails out there as well. The city has sort of grown around these areas, it's pretty unique. Tour Operator: Hotelscombined.com
Albuquerque - Chad. Date of travel: Feb 2003
Sleepy and unpretentious, I dig Albuquerque. In the desert but high enough in elevation, that the climate is mild. A river runs though, that gave me some space and nature within the city. I don't know what the tourist to do's are here. I just walked around and met people and found the city attractive on a subtle level.
