New York City
Taking a bite of “The Big Apple” is a heady experience. New York City is iconic and idiosyncratic, where the towering statue of Lady Liberty presides over the hopes and dreams of millions of people from all ethnic origins, from the joggers in green Central Park to the mysterious dives of Chinatown. First-timers on holidaymore

Digging New York - Chad. Date of travel: Mar 2008
Hey New York. I love this city, man. My favorite big city. The people aren't as cold as their reputation. The Empire State building, go to the top, crazy cool. A friend said it's like the Grand Canyon. I guess he was refering to the drastic feel... Museums, yes tons, and cheap, and cool. The Met is number one on my list. And then Central Park, big, but don't go at night. What next...i just love walking around Manhattan. People everywhere, and strange, and normal. Times Square, Broadway, Battery Park, Ellis Island... But my favorite locations are east village, lower east side, greenwich village. This is the art and bohemian scene. A little less bohemian these days and a little more yuppie and hipster, but it's eccentric and I dig that.

Loved New York City and Niagara Falls - Family of Four. Date of travel: Oct 2007
We loved this city, so much to do and see, so cheap but not nasty, we travelled with BA and they were great would not fly with anyone else, they treated the kids as individuals. Our two children aged 15 and 11 loved the sights, the breath taking views over the Niagara Falls, it was so beautiful. Our guide was fantastic, she could answer any question you asked, she also got the kids involved too, asking them questions, so they didnt get left out. This is our second trip to NYC this year, but our kids first, they said that they would love to live there when they are older. I may just take them up on that idea. Outstanding place 10 out of 10 for sights, shopping, eating out, (NEED REALLY GOOD WALKING SHOES) Thanks for reading From the Family of Four

The Right Way to See New York - On Foot! - Richard Bryson. Date of travel: May 2007
My wife and I live in New York and found out about this site from a friend who used it to plan a blind date. So far, we've done the Upper East Side tour, the Greenwich Village Scavenger Hunt and the Chocolate tour. Based on our experience, we would recommend TailoredTours.com to anyone planning to visit the city. They're inexpensive ($3 per tour), hassle-free, comprehensive and easy to use (it's impossible to get lost with these things)! New York is a city where there's something interesting, historic or just weird on every corner, and these tours point out all of those things. My wife and I actually felt bad every time a tour bus went by loaded with visitors who were oblivious to all the cool stuff they were missing (and paying $35 per person for the privilege). If you're planning a trip to New York, take it from a couple of locals: Check out TailoredTours.com.

New York CIty - Paul Dicks. Date of travel: Feb 2007
The big apple is as incredible as you think and more. The museums are incredible, the shopping is fantastic and the nightlife really never stops. The people are what really makes this city, they are fascinating to watch and to talk to. My favourite areas are East Village and Grenwich Village, very cool and cutting edge.

Where time passes too quickly - John Kitchen. Date of travel: Oct 2006
We visit our daughter and husband twice a year in Manhattan. New York city is a truly magical city for the tourist. The different districts are a delight - Chinatown, Financial District, the Village, Chelsea, etc. We 'treat' ourselves to opera at the 'Met' every time - O.K. we sit up high ($15-26 a seat), but the views are great, the acoustics excellent and the performances magical, and, they serve the best sandwiches and brownies in the city (and short lines in the intervals). Broadway is a little expensive compared with the West End (London). But there are so many sights. On top of the well known sights, try the Public Library - seriously - it is wonderful. Diners (especially off the beaten track) are a treat as well as the well known eateries - our favourite is the East Side Cafe on 23rd (World's best coffee, world's smallest orange juice!). And - stand on a street corner and pull out a map - within 20 seconds someone will stop and ask if they can help you. The people are really friendly and service is generally excellent. New York - we love it!!

The City That Never Sleeps - Shahzad Quraishi. Date of travel: Mar 2006
"I had never been to New York before so I was really looking forward to going. I had seen pictures of the City on TV and in Newspapers and found out it was a lively City. When I got there I was not disappointed. The City is very vibrant and very busy and my advice is that New York is City that always goes fast so working in a big City like New York can be pretty hectic. Overall in the two weeks I spent there I enjoyed myself. I saw the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Empire State Building, I stayed with my cousin in New Jersey for the first week and in the second I stayed at the Radisson Hotel in New York. I would not want to live inside New York but I do recommend that people should go and visit the City that never sleeps!".

New York fantastic - Vernon Haddock. Date of travel: Nov 2005
I went to New York city on Thanksgiving weekend. Lots of people but very exhilirating. Sunday was much quieter. I am 55 and went with 2 grown up daughters (well I thought they were until we hit the shops). Great deals at Maceys, 75% discount with vouchers from the local press on Saturday only. Used cabs and found them quick, easy and helpful. Must say I was expecting better service in the restaurants and coffee shops. Very few smiling faces and 'have a nice day's. Security for the ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty is tighter than the airlines! Don't wear too much as you have to take it off including your shoes!! Trip from airport and back we used a company called Newyork Limo guys. Very good. Booked on line in the UK, the driver was waiting at JFK, can't fault the service. Wellington hotel was clean and just a short walk from Central park and Times sq. Although New York is flat you soon clock up the miles going from shop to shop and seeing things so wear comfy shoes. Go to New York. Everyone's a dream, if possible. Believe it or not going to another city in the world is healthier and cost effective. It is full of dirty and filthy places. People, native or foreigners are rude and impolite. You go to a store, and the clerk will scream " what the hell do you want?". However, places, like the city or fancy ones are very unaffordable. The service is not worth the money you spend. Advice, unless absolutely needed, you may go to new york, other wise, going to Augusta, GA is much more intersting. ... Who is going there anyway? New York, New York - Linda Rowe. Date of travel: Apr 2005
We travelled to New York with BA from Manchester, the flight and staff were the best ever. When we actually arrived in New York I was mesmerised from the moment I got off the plane until I got back on it to come home. It was fantastic, from the skyscrapers to the drain hubs with the steam coming out of them, it was just how I imagined. We had quite a good itinerary has we had won the trip and it was escorted by two Americans from day one. I would recommend the helicopter flight over Manhattan, it was breath taking, also take in a Broadway show, have dinner on the Hudson river and do Sardi's restaurant where the stars eat, you never know who you might bump into!!! Plus take plenty of money to spend in all the designer shops. New York is a must for anyone, I will definately be returning. What a great holiday. Tour Operator: self

I am writing to report the worst trip that I have had on a SuperShuttle. I was picked up on 2/24 at Newark Airport at approximately 4 PM and wanted to come into Manhattan. The driver picked up other passengers at Newark. I am going to list the things that went wrong during the course of the ride. 1. Two passengers that the driver picked up decided to get OUT of the van at one point. The driver neglected to check with the passengers in the van on their destinations, so he took us out of our way (based on the destinations of all the other passengers on the van) to drop off the two non-existent passengers. When he arrived there, he discovered that the passengers had left the van. I'd also like to point out that before the two passengers left the van, there were 8 people in the van. I do not know maximum capacity, but at the point the two people left the van, he made a stop to pick up 3 ADDITIONAL passengers. I have no idea where those passengers were going to fit. The only reason those 3 were able to get in the van was because the 2 passengers left, but the driver failed to notice this. 2. While driving out of Newark on the approach to the Holland tunnel, the driver crossed a raised median on the road (slow traffic on the right, VERY FAST traffic on the left) to get into the faster traffic, causing the van to nearly be broadsided by a truck (which had to swerve considerably to avoid us). This has to be illegal in a car let alone by someone operating a passenger vehicle. 3. The driver spent a protracted amount of time arguing with the toll-taker at the entrance to the Holland Tunnel. The toll-taker demanded $6 and the driver argued that it should have been only $3. We were blocking traffic and just sitting there as this was taking place. It was not resolved. 4. The driver stopped for gas with all the passengers in the car. I would think that this could have been taken care of BEFORE the ride? 5. The driver kept getting locked out of the van (for example, while getting gas, he left his keys in the car and the van locked). If there had not been passengers in the van, he would have been locked out. This happened 5 times during the course of the trip, where the driver got locked out and passengers had to move up front and press the unlock button. 6. There was no logic to how the driver dropped off passengers. We kept going cross-town at the busiest time of day because there was no route plan. I am not sure why SuperShuttle in Manhattan doesn't assign drivers to either the east or west sides to avoid this - this added unnecessary time to our trip. We stopped at 35th on the east side, then 43rd on the west side, back to 48th on the east side...then 76th on the west side...etc. All told, the trip took nearly 3.5 hours. There were a total of 9 passengers on the van and when I got dropped off, there was still a passenger remaining to be dropped off. I take SuperShuttle all the time in my hometown and it is vastly different and much more organized there. I would definitely NOT recommend to anyone that they take the Manhattan SuperShuttle. We travelled from Heathrow with American airlines and arrived into JFK.The inflight service was quite good and at the airport we hailed a yellow cab to take us to our hotel which had a set fare of $45 plus tolls. We stayed at the Amsterdam Court hotel which was basic but clean and in a good central location on 50th and broadway we had a fantastic time with all the sightseeing and I would recommend a trip with liberty helicopters,a circle line cruise and the uptown and downtown loops on the Grayline sightseeing buses and the horsedrawn carriage ride through Central park.Just a couple of tips if you do decide to take a helicopter ride you will need your passports and if you want to visit the Empire state building its best to do it as soon as it opens.
