Hot, humid and huge, much of the action in downtown Houston, the metropolis in eastern Texas, takes place in a massive underground air-conditioned mall. The businesslike city works hard, from its busy port to its large oil and computer corporation. Locals and those on holiday in Houston can find plenty of leisure opportunities in themore city’s green surroundings, its great theatres and sports facilities, and excellent museums. The main attraction is the Houston Space Center, mission control for the US space programme.
