Ho Chi Minh City
Have your shoes shined, bite into a piece barbecued dog meat, dodge a scooter carrying a whole family, and nod at a somber robed monk. This, and more, is what awaits anyone planning a holiday in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), the hectic and sometimes hedonistic capital of Vietnam. A modern veneer overlays ancientmore
Ho Chi Minh City - Cu Chi Tunnels - Monica. Date of travel: Jun 2009
Do not miss a day trip out to Cu Chi Tunnels from Siagon when you visit. You can stumble into any tour operator and book yourself a trip for as little as US$6 per person. I would steer clear of Hanh Café! The staff are unhelpful and when they make an error they do not apologize yet become abusive and offensive. Every other tour operator we dealt with however was awesome!
Know it before you go - Alex Loeb. Date of travel: Nov 2008
Saigon has a lot to offer but it really takes knowledge of where to look. The best restaurant in the city is a collection of the best street vendors that inhabit a place directly across from the Reunification Palace. My favorite budget hotel is called Me Thy and is located in the ally off of the popular travel hub De Tham street. My favorite bars change often but right now it's Le Pub in the backpacker district. Some of the most fun I have had is the shockingly fast water slides in Dam Sen water park. And, for a taste of culture, go to a China Town doctor and have him create exotic remedies from traditional ingredients. I have found that Saigon is rare, in that just walking about rarely gives much satisfaction but knowing where the best places are saves a bunch of hassle.
Foodie Guide to Saigon - Wdot. Date of travel: Jul 2008
I lived in Saigon for the past year and a half and want to pass on my favorite foodie haunts in the city. Good Eats for those looking for spectacular food: Xu, An Vien in District 3, Serenata.
Hanh cafe - Hakase. Date of travel: Apr 2008
Ngon restaurant so good for Vietnam dish.
Hanh Cafe - Steve Ng. Date of travel: Feb 2008
Recently I have booked a return trip from Saigon to Mui Ne on the Sleeper Bus from Hanh Cafe. The trip up to Mui Ne I did get the sleeper bus but not on the way back. I lodged a complaint but they just say sorry. I will never ever book another trip with Hanh Cafe as they are not honest with their clients. I strongly recommend either Phuong Trang or Kim Cafe will be a better choice in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh heaven - Martin Cosgrove. Date of travel: Jul 2007
I spent three weeks in Vietnam staying in Vung Tau, south east of Ho Chi Minh and spent a few days in the city itself. Saigon has lots to offer in terms of shopping, eating and drinking. The best places for me were the underground which is based on London's tube system and the Saigon Saigon Bar which has live music and a wonderful atmosphere. If you are travelling South-East Asia then do not pass on the chance to visit Saigon.
I Like HCMC... I can never forget my 1st trip - Dablu. Date of travel: Mar 2007

Friendly Vietnam - Mr. R Tomlin. Date of travel: Jun 2006
A lovely city with plenty to see, a real experience crossing the road remember to walk slowly. A safe feeling walking around and plenty of taxis if you need one. A visit to the underground tunnels is a must, and also a trip to the Mekong Delta. Enjoy we did. Mr, Mrs, Tomlin

Definitely take a tour to the Mekong Delta from Ho Chi Minh City which is so interesting, we did a boat trip to the floating markets, passed houseboats, visited ethnic villages etc. Amazing to see the pigs and chickens floating in a stable next to the floating house in the middle of the river! Also tried the Mekong delicacy - snake and snake wine!
