Aix-en-Provence
The gentile French town of Aix-en-Provence, a short distance north of Marseille, is known as the “city of a thousand fountains”; many of these play merrily along the wide main avenue, the Cours Mirabeau, lined with plane-trees and graceful old mansions. Built on a hot spring, this was originally a Roman spa town, and visitorsmore still come to holiday in Aix-en-Provence for its thermal springs and to marvel at its beautiful architecture.
