Golden Beach
There are as yet no neon lights or fast food to fuel a holiday at Golden Beach, the resort on the east coast of the Greek island of Thassos, but the visitors who come here regard this as a bonus. The laid-back hotels and apartment complexes are set close to two traditional villages and severalmore
Great holiday - Elizabeth Gaughan. Date of travel: Aug 2008
We went to Golden Beach August 2008 what a fab place very relaxing no loud music, fab beach clean not to many people on it. We can honestly say it was the most relaxing holiday we have had and looking forward to booking again next year. We went room only but found a bar come restaurant called Neenans where we went for breakfast and evening dinner Arron the manager come jack of all trades chef, bar tender looked after us so well it was a pleasure going their for food nothing was too much trouble for him to cook us. We are hoping to go again next year and meet up with people we met. We went into the old town which was very nice and worth going on the bus to see. The people are very friendly and helpful.

Great Beach holiday
Golden Beach is a great resort for a relaxing holiday. The beach itself is superb with plenty of nearby tavernas. The sea is clear and warm and normally still but on one day there were 6 feet waves which made it very enjoyable. Nightlife centres around the restaurants which may have live Greek music but there are no nightclubs etc. The scenery is superb with mountain views on all sides. Could not fault anywhere that we ate at, Vigli restaurant being the best food and service closely followed by Fedra. Suggest taking an organised walking trip into the hills for stunning scenery or one of the boat trips from Thassos Town around the island most of which stop off for you to swim. Thassos Town is a 12 euro cab fare away. Our 2 teenge sons were not bored and spent a lot of their time in the sea or on the beach. This was our first time to Greece and we loved the resort and will return again. Tour Operator: Thompsons
If you enjoy a great beach this is the place for you - Luke and Hannah Tindall. Date of travel: Jul 2007
The beach is fabulous which shelves gently into the sea, there is a good selection of tavernas mostly serving traditional Greek dishes. Th Golden Beach resort is quiet and is best suited to couples wanting a quiet and relaxing holiday. Children would be bored here and the young and lively set would be best looking for a more vibrant resort. The one downside was the number of wasps around and they were a real pest. Overall if you enjoy a Beach Life holiday with magnificent surrounding scenery then we can recommend it here, wasps apart.
A great place for a lazy Beach life holiday - Anna-Louise and Martin. Date of travel: Jul 2007
The main attractions of Golden Beach is the lovely golden sands, stunning surrounding mountain scenery and good authentic Greek food in one of the many tavernas. avoid Fedras where the service is unfriendly and terrible. Also a large number of wasps, we got stung twice.
I loved Golden Beach - Sarah and James. Date of travel: Jul 2007
My boyfriend and I spent a week in Golden Beach, this was my second time from five years ago, boyfriend's first time. We both had an excellent holiday and would definitely go back. I would advise to buy repellent for the mosquitoes. When I came five years ago the wasps were much worse. There are a few flying around and they will come if you eat meaty foods – therefore it is best to eat later in the night as they aren’t there then. James got stung once on his feet, make sure you have after bite with you. Favourite bars included Cavo D’oro, the staff were very friendly, try the ham and cheese omelette and the fruit with waffle – delicious. They also have a happy ‘hour’ 8-10pm cocktails are €4. For a fantastic view try Vigli’s you can see all across the bay – they do really nice frappes and chocolate milkshakes. Favourite places to eat - we tried quite a few different places but the best food and cheapest was Sotris which is near the end of the bay. Typical meal cost €25 and would advise the fried courgettes, cheese and ham pies and sole fillet ala cream with prawns!!! The food in the Vigli was also really nice made even better with the fantastic view. We were very disappointed with Fedra – food was ok but service was awful – we waited 25 minutes for a bottle of water and the restaurant wasn’t even busy. The staff did not appear bothered that we were unhappy with the service provided. The beach is gorgeous but beware the sand is boiling hot – even though it’s white! The sea is lovely, first few days the sea was like a mill pond, towards the end of the holiday the waves were really high around 5 to 6ft this wasn’t a problem for us as it was really fun. The weather was fantastic reaching 41 degrees on some days therefore we tended to stay in the shade till 1-2ish. We used a high sun factor (30) and did not burn. The Thomson rep was ok but pushed the excess baggage allowance – to only find out at the airport that they weren’t really that bothered and if you was over by a lot it was €10 per kilo versus the £100 the rep told us it would be. We did not go on any trips but would consider it next time. One of the restaurants towards the campsite runs a boat trip which sounds very good. Transfers on the way back were unorganised – considering one of the reps has been there for twenty years. Overall we had a fantastic time and will definitely go back to Golden Beach and the Filipidis apartments.
Loved Golden Beach - Keith & Bev. Date of travel: Jun 2007
Golden Beach is a quiet resort with plenty of restaurants. Say quiet but every Friday the Viggli on the hill has a 60s & 70s music night - have a good meal and a bop. Resort is expanding with new building but all 2/3 stories max. This will generate more restaurants & already some new shops. Try the Korali at Scalia about 15 minutes away - best restaurant there. If any teenagers with you not a lot to do but there is a new internet cafe. Visit the Pottery man at Thassos town - he has a shop in the main street but worth seeing his pottery about half a mile down the beach. His work is unique & he always has time for you - may even make you a cup of coffee! Thassos town is half an hour or so by bus (last bus there is 6.30) with a taxi back later (approx €12) A must visit for main shops.
I love Golden Beach!!! - Julie & Steve. Date of travel: Jun 2007
Wow! What a place. Golden Beach has a beautiful beach, blue sea, it really was a fantastic holiday. Never had a bad meal would recommend Sotiris and Playa de Oro as my favourites places. Although the Cafe Dolphin was also good for snacks at lunch time.

We had a great 2 weeks in Golden Beach on the island of Thassos. The beach here is pure sand gently slopping into the sea. There is a small selection of tavernas here serving authentic Greek dishes. It may be difficult here is you are a vegetarian or a fast food fan(you can get Pizzas in a couple of places)Not much in the way of nighlife or bars very much a lay back and relax holiday. It suited us but probably would not been ideal for the more lively or children.Only a few shops so for any semi serious shopping you will need to get the bus into Thassos Town (about 6 a day). We stayed at the George Hotel(2*) which was very basic but comfortable. It also had a small bar where we mingled with other guests after returning from our evening meal.We made several "new" friends here over a few drinks!! Tour Operator: Thomsons

We went to Golden Beach in Thassos for a relaxing holiday and that is what we got. The beach is great and surrounding mountain scenery spectacular. The resort is low key with the night life revolving around Greek restaurants. We thought Sotiris was the best and Fedras the worst. (Food good but service terrible slow and unfriendly) Not many bars Daves Bar near the square which was acceptable and a cocktail bar that was out of place. We stayed at The Emerald apartments which in themselves were very pleasant with a nice pool. However they were situated at the top of an exceedingly steep hill which to say the least was off puting. For this reason we would not recommend this accommodation unless you like climbing Tour Operator: Thomas Cook

Golden Beach in Thassos was a great place to relax and was uncommercialised. The beach was glorious soft sand and there was a small number of typical Greek tavernas where we spent most evenings, as there was very little else to do. For us it was idealistic. We stayed at the Marina apartments which were adequate but very poor value. Small rooms and minimal on site facilities. You will get far better value at other accommodation in this lovely scenic resort. Tour Operator: Thomsons

Golden Beach on the island of THASSOS is so special to us, this was the third time we have visited the island: twice with our son 7yrs old. The beaches are so 'Golden'! the water clean&clear, couldn't keep our son out of the water. Plenty of places to eat, The VIGLI as always spectacular ; the food and even more so the views to die for. The FEDRA has a special place in our hearts too, very friendly service, and food wonderful. Would recommend it for people who want a relaxing get away from it all holiday, great food, and beaches. Local buses run to and from Thassos town most days. We stayed in the Iionnis apartments with swimming pool: very clean and nice size rooms with balcony. Can't wait to go back next year and visit again. Tour Operator: Baker's Dolphin
