Scala Sotiros

We were looking for a peaceful authentic Greek resort and we found it at Scala Sotiros in Thassos. The sleepy village as is best described has a harbour where the local fisherman proudly bring in their daily catches. There is a small beach here, a handful of tavernas and a few shops. We stayed at the Vranas Studios which are set amongst the olive trees. This small complex has its own swimming pool, bar and taverna which is very convenient. We often socialised with like minded guests in the evenings The staff are very friendly and the rooms are comfortable. It is advisable to hire a car for at least part of your holiday to explore this interesting island and then return to the tranquilty of Scala Sotiris in the evenings. It is worth visiting the Primos market on Monday which is essentially for the locals but a fair number of tourist can be seen as well. Tour Operator: Kosmar

We went to Thassos for the last week in July and first week of August. Big mistake. Greeks from the mainland holiday at this time also and it was very busy. The accommodation was full of greeks on holiday which we were not expecting. This meant a lot of noise in the evening and very late nights (3 and 4 in the morning!). Scala Sotiros is not suitable for people who do not hire cars as there is not enough to do. There were 3 open tavernas, a very tiny mini market and a nice bakery. We went with 4 girls (10-16) and they were bored after the first day as not enough to look around. There were no hirecars to take 6 people so we couldn't get away. Tour Operator: Kosmar
