An exotic resort with all the mod-cons package tourists expect to find, Kuta on the Indonesian island of Bali is the country’s answer to the Caribbean resorts. Memorable Kuta, Bali - Kelly. Date of travel: Feb 2007
Kuta was fun but it was more because of the people we met at the resort - Contiki. The Australians we met were loads of fun so that made the trip memorable. Bali itself, I didn't like the people in Kuta at all. The locals do see you as a cash machine and I disliked their extreme bargaining. The place is dirty and Kuta beach was way overrated. However there is a lot to do in Bali - the nightlife is great, massages are cheap and the choice of excursions is fantastic. It's also very cheap which is a major plus point. I couldn't live in Bali but it was great as a two week holiday, if cocktails, beaches and a suntan are your thing.

Keep away from ANDA BUNGALOWS, Kuta Lombok! While staying at the Anda bungalows in Kuta Lombok, the staff slipped a mickey in my food and later broke into my room, stealing money and other items. The smarmy little turds were full of condolences next morning. My advice to all travellers is to STAY AWAY from this establishment. Other hotels in Kuta Lombok have had similar cases of employee theft so perhaps it's better to keep right away from the place.

I think the above poster must be referring to Kuta Bali, NOT Kuta Lombok. Kuta Lombok does not even have taxis & does not have the hassles she mentions. I should know, I live there. Kuta Lombok, is a quiet relaxed resort with a good range of accomodation from cheap & slightly shabby huts all the way up to the 5* Novotel. The beaches for Kms both to the east & west are pristine white sand & usually deserted. Kuta is also the base for which to get to the local surf spots, many of Kutas visitors are infact surfers.

If you are enjoying Indonesia don't go to Kuta Beach. It is not at all like the rest of the country, but is geared up for tourists to spend money and it is impossible to do anything without being surrounded by aggressive touts, sellers, taxi drivers, shopkeepers or whoever wanting to sell something to you as a tourist. I disliked the attitude of the people there - dishonest money grabbers - and they see you as nothing more than a cash machine. Everything is more expensive too. And there is nothing special about the beach at Kuta - very overrated.
