Kuta Lombok is on the opposite spectrum from Bali and other popular tourist resorts. Kuta is not crowded with tourists, it has limited shopping, and nightlife consists of quiet talk in one of the many restaurants. It is natural (great for eco-tourists) and home to people who have lived the same lifestyle for hundreds of years. It has scores of almost abandoned, white-sand beaches where you can relax, swim or just wander. The surrounding countryside is mountainous. You can rent a motorcycle to explore the back roads of South Lombok and feel like you're the first tourist to ever visit some of these places. Restaurants and hotels are plentiful - and range from very inexpensive to moderate.
