Los Cabos
The place to truly appreciate all the things that make Mexico such a sought after vacation destination is Los Cabos, two holiday resorts on the Baja California peninsula linked by an 18-mile (29km) stretch of pristine beach, washed by the warm Sea of Cortez. The towns are surrounded by cactus-studded deserts and cinnamon-shaded mountains. Themore

Visited the Baja and was greatly disappointed that we had not been advised that swimming in the Sea of Cortez was "at your own risk". Our accommodations at the Westin Hotel Regina Timeshare were misrepresented. We had requested a unit with full kitchen and a beach suitable for swimming. We had neither: a 2 burner stove plus microwave and a beach for sunning on but not suitable for swimming. However, we loved the climate, not a cloud in the sky and high temps in low 80's and high 90's. We would have enjoyed more cultural activities and areas of historical significance but they were not to be found. Not all tourists are into ATVing, horseback riding, water activities, i.e. catamaran rides, glass bottomed boats, jet skis, parasailing, etc. The two main towns of Cabos San Lucas and San Jose were quite diverse. We rather enjoyed the latter as it was a colonial type town with numerous shops selling silver jewellry, ceramics, t-shirts, etc without the high pressure sales pitch that we experienced in Cabos San Lucas. Each and every corner in Cabos offered Tourism Information booths that were, in actuality, time-share operators pitching their hotel timeshare units. Vacations are exactly that, a time to get away from opening your wallet, being harrassed to spend and pressured into activities that you would not participate in at home. The average Mexican person was helpful, eager to share information, courteous, and contributed to our vacation. Would we go back? I would have to think about it. We were appalled by the amount of garbage: they have no concept of the 3R's, Recylce, reuse and reduce. Many of the highways, streets and tourist areas were so littered it was unbelieveable. We loved the opportunity to shop in their supermarkets that were a real surprise, equal to anything we experience at home. Do not allow any preconceived ideas hamper the possibilty of visiting Mexico. The people, flora and fauna, climate, cost, make it worth considering. Tour Operator: My Travel
