Hayley Parker and Neil Scholtz. Date of travel: Aug 2004
We just spent a lovely relaxing weekend at the Cumberland Protea Hotel in Worcester. We went because we won two free night's accommodation there, and to be honest we thought it might be a bit boring. But Worcester turned out to be an interesting town with lots of shops to walk around, and there was even a fun-fair on the go! The hotel was great; seemed very luxurious to us. We enjoyed using the gym and jacuzzi. The gym was very old-fashioned but we had it all to ourselves. There was plenty of places to get cheap meals (we were on a low budget) like Debonair's pizza and McDonalds. Only problem was that we left our sight-seeing till Sunday, wanting to go and visit the Kleinplasie open air museum which looked good according to the brochure in the hotel. When we got there, though, we found it was closed on a Sunday. Seems really silly, because that is just the day when people drive out from Cape Town for a day in the country! Everything turned out to be closed in Worcester on Sunday, except for the local churches of course. A real pity. We gave up and went home early. The lovely drive made up for it (we opted not to go through the tunnel and drove back via Paarl). So, if you go to Worcester try not to be there on a Sunday, unless you want to just spend the day in bed!
