The perfect weekend getaway - Dave. Date of travel: Aug 2008
Set amidst the elemental beauty of the iconic Karoo landscape, Barrydale is a scenic and peaceful town that is perfect for a sleepy weekend getaway. Don't miss the imaginative boutique shop Desert Fish, incredible lamb curry at Clark of the Karoo, and fresh dairy products from the Blue Cow. Ask at the tourist office for directions to the secret waterfall, to my mind the most impressive in the Western Cape. Drive 20km or so north-east from town and you'll find the Warmwaterberg mineral springs; on the way back, stop off at Ronnie's Sex Shop (in fact an innocuous bar) for a some refreshments.
Quaint - Andre and Suzannah. Date of travel: Sep 2006
Quaint, with lovely buildings and great for a weekend getaway. Some good restaurants and loved the local hotel (went for a drink and def thinking of staying here next time). Dotn expect major nightlife - its about relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surrounds. So lovely to get out of town and see somewhere different.
