• SIMONS TOWN HOLIDAY REVIEWS

Simons Town
A small historical coastal town, Simons Town has a quintessentially English feel to it even after the Royal Naval Base was handed to South Africa over five decades ago. Nestled against the mountain in False Bay, cobbled alleyways lead to white washed houses where breathtaking seaviews of the bay can be seen. Visit the busymore

Getaway Town - Susanne Meyer. Date of travel: Feb 2007
We live in Johannesburg and come down to the sea every summer as we used to live in Cape Town. Our kids love coming to Simonstown, we rent a little cottage on the mountain and spend the mornings on the beach, visit the yacht club to see what new boats are there and usually head to Kalk Bay for lunch. Simonstown has good shops for the daily essentials and a few restaurants worth visiting, especially the take away fish shop for traditional fish and chips. There is a great deli in Kalk Bay, Olympia Cafe that makes delicious freshly baked bread and the Brass Bell makes delicious seafood, cocktails and pizzas, right on the ocean. Simonstown gives you the best of both worlds, it's only 45 minute drive from the city! I highly recommend it to families or couples looking for a tranquil break, in a small town, close to the ocean.
Penguins - Leah, Sarah, Ethan. Date of travel: Jun 2006
Took my mother-in-law to fulfil her dream of swimming with penguins at Boulders Beach. Incredible to see baby penguins, 'teenagers' and abandoned eggs, and see her face as she swam in the freezing sea with the sleek creatures. Boulders itself is beautiful and one can see dassies sunning on the rocks and plenty of other birds. The walkways get very crowded and full of people snapping away on their cameras, but walk down to the beach. Simonstown itself is lovely an filled with historical buildings, some cute shops and some good restaurants - we tried Berthas at the harbour which was excellent.
