We spent a week on holiday in Ballito in 2004. Ballito is a beach resort half an hour to the north of Durban. Ballito is a popular get away from Durban, but is very built up, though comfortable if you're in a nice hotel - we stayed in Ballito Manor which was idyllic, but sadly it's been pulled down to make room for more ugly appartments. The beach is quite nice; sandy and long, but not that wide and quite crowded. The sea is warm, boiling compared to Cape Town, but its quite rough. There are some good restaurants, but also lots of cheap diners, burger bars etc. Would I go on holiday to Ballito again? Nope, there are lots of much nicer places in South Africa to visit.
