Mkhuze Game Reserve - Awesome!
The tented safari camp was pure adrenaline stuff - DON'T braai after dark! The hyenas lurk in the bushes waiting to eat any scraps! The park is diverse and extremely picturesque and a reserve where you don't need to ride around for hours in a hot car searching for animals but, instead, you can sit leisurely at a hide watching a continuous stream of animals coming to quench their thirst. The Nsumo pan is breathtaking and a stunning spot to have a picnic. The sand roads are in need of urgent maintenance especially if you don't have a 4x4 vehicle. Not to be missed is the Fig Forest Walk! These majestic 2-500 year old trees are spectacular! The suspension bridges, however, also need some maintenance! Two nights was just not enough - we just didn't want to leave!
Wonderful!!! - William and Helen and family. Date of travel: Dec 2005
We have been to Mkhuze several times over the years and it never ceases to be delight! Wonderful! If almost feels like a private game park because as it isnt Big 5, there are usually fewer guests. But lots of rhino, kudu, giraffe, and the camps are open to the bush so you get the treat of grazing buck walking in front of your chalet. The main camp has a small restaurant that serves really good breakfasts and things like toasted sandwiches etc but the self catering cottages are brilliant. All you need with clean towels, soap, fresh linen and spacious, with friendly staff. The KwaZulu-Natal national parks are very efficiently run and always a pleasure. The birdlife at Mkhuze is phenomenal and next to Hlhluwe, it has the most birds in one area in the world. There are also great hides on the water (crocodiles and hippos to be spotted) and the best is to get up super early and take a flask of coffee, and settle in - you never know what the bush will provide. Will go again as soon as we can.
