Spring wonderland - J. Mannerby. Date of travel: Aug 2007
In spring, the otherwise dry and dusty landscape in the Northern Cape is transformed into a carpet of colour every year after the rains and is the most incredible thing to see! Some years are obviously better than others, but in 2007 there were literally fields of colour, flowers lining the offroads and highways, flowers scattered throughout the towns and up the hillsides...whatever you do don't leave home without your camera. Towns closer to Cape Town like Darling and Nieuwoudtville were also in full, magical, exquisite bloom - I have never seen anything like it in my life and it is definitely one of my absolute highlights!

Magical - J. van Niekerk. Date of travel: Sep 2006
Every year we make sure we catch the wildflowers, but this year coz of funny weather, everything came out early and although magic as always, we missed the peak season. But still, we always pack a picnuick and enjoy the carpet of yellows, reds, purples and the veld in all its spring madness. the whole Namaqualand area is beautiful.
