Verbier
Providing challenges for advanced skiers and boarders, Verbier lies in the heart of Switzerland’s Quatres Vallees (Four Valleys) ski area, a picturesque mountain resort renowned for its excellent restaurants and raucous nightlife. In a nutshell, for those who like to ski and party hard, Verbier is hard to beat. Off the slopes, the resort ismore
Verbier - Stuart. Date of travel: Dec 2008
Some of the best skiing in Europe in Verbier. I had a great holiday here. The nightlife and restaurants were top class and the skiing was just amazing. So extensive. Also the resort is not as commercialized as some others, eg French resorts. I loved it here and I'll definitely be back.
My favourite ski resort - Rupert Baring. Date of travel: Feb 2008
Verbier has some of the best skiing in the world - there are hundreds of miles of piste and the off-piste is exceptional and the ski guides are excellent and find you the best snow and keep you out of danger. Verbier is fairly close to Geneva making it easy as a weekend destination - you can hire a car, but the public transport is also quite good with a train going to Martiney regularly, then you can get the train and bubble right into Verbier. The restaurant and nightlife is great and Verbier attracts a good crowd - Euros and Brits and not too many Russians... yet. There are lots of good nightspots but I still prefer the Farm. There is a great little restaurant half way down from the slopes - I forget its name - where you can enjoy some mild wine before skiing down in the dark. Fer à Cheval is another good option - mostly filled by regulars still in their boots.
Great Skiiing - Darren Swan. Date of travel: Mar 2007
Love Verbier, great fun and awsome skiing. There are some brilliant powder bowls at Mont-Fort, Tortin and, if you can face the trip, Savoleyres. And the piste is fairly good too! We had some good snow mid-week and hired a guide, hardly skied on the piste all day. Awesome. The lift system is not as good as it should be but it's really not that bad, except for La Chaux where there are always queues and going up Mont Fort cable car.
Extensive skiing - Archie. Date of travel: Mar 2006
Verbier is my favourite ski resort, the skiing is some of the most extensive in the world, with some challenging runs and good off-piste if you're lucky. The atmosphere in the resort is alse excellent - the town hasnt been built up with concrete like some of those French resorts and although now quite large its mostly wooden chalets. The Verbier nightlife is also first rate, lots of good bars to choose from and timeless nightclubs like the Farm are still going strong. The queues for the lifts can get quite bad in school holidays, so best to avoid then if you can. The resort is high so you can ski til quite late in the season.
