Skanes
The Tunisian holiday resort of Skanes, fronting the bright, blue Mediterranean, is a stretch of modern top-rated hotels and tourist facilities built along the sandy coastline south of the ancient holy town of Monastir. The town of Monastir itself has been given a modern “make-over” to successfully enhance its appeal for holidaymakers, who revel inmore
About Skanes, Tunisia - Clare. Date of travel: Aug 2009
Not a lot going on in Skanes although there is a local pharmacy so if you buy medication at home then make sure you go there and stock up - no prescription needed for ANYTHING and my hubby purchased asthma inhalers for 2 quid each (£7/8 pounds on scrip at home). Monistair is a must as culturally you see loads. Beautiful Mosque and very different to the little villages which are very barren and run down for the most part as the country is developing (very rapidly). For a brief explanation.... very different to alot of muslim countries as quite recently the president changed the rules so that all men can only have one wife, children have to go to school, women have equal rights. You are able to walk around in the towns in shorts and vest top but saying that, be respectful of there customs and religion and cover up if you want to visit the mosque. I would imagine that Tunisia will come up the rankings on holiday destinations in the future and has loads to offer - go have a look for yourself.
Shopping in the markets - John C. Date of travel: Jan 2009
Sousse and Monistir markets are both for locals and tourists but watch out for pick pockets and don`t get hemmed in as they my be trying to slash your bag, as happened to us. But it didn't put us off as there's good and bad everywhere and in every country and the Tunisian people are friendly and make you welcome.

Can't say that much about Skanes unfortunately as I only ventured outside my complex twice for day trips and didn't go into Skanes, but Skanes beach is a big stretch of white clean sands and is beautiful for the eye.
Just an airport with a few hotels by the beach, that's all! - Lynn Corbett. Date of travel: Oct 2007
Nothing in Skanes except a salt plant, plenty of mosquitoes, a few hotels and the very noisy airport!
Skanes is a lovely place - Mr and Mrs Foster. Date of travel: Sep 2007
There are quite a few places to see in Skanes/Monastir. Go and have a look at the Mausoleum and the Ribat at Monastir only a short taxi ride from Neptunia A taxi costs only approx 10 dinar (equivelent to £4.10).
Skanes beaches are lovely - Cheryl and Lewis. Date of travel: Jul 2007
Skanes is purpose built along the beach and has just a large number of hotels. There are no restaurants or bars in the immediate vicinity. However, little village within walking distance and Monastir and Sousse are very close by either bus or taxi. Ideal location to the airport as it is a 10 minute transfer which prevents the sitting on buses for hours after arrival!
Don't go - Zoe and 11 others. Date of travel: Jul 2007
Don't go
Skanes is not a resort, it's a beach with a few hotels and a tiny shopping place with a bar and a restaurant. It has one shop in there too. Don't be fooled by the picture, that's the outside of the tiny shopping place. Sunshine can make anything look good.
Skanes - Michelle. Date of travel: Oct 2006
Skanes as a whole is a place I would never visit again. There is nothing there outside of the resorts and to totally enjoy the Tunisian experience I found I had to travel to Port el Kantouai. This however had great nightlife. I was only disappointed at the fact that I had to spend stupid amounts of extra money to taxi there and back when I paid alot of money to holiday in Sahara Beach Skanes!

Tunisia is a nice holiday place providing you keep your wits about you. Monastir is great for haggling and picking up bargains. You do have to watch each other though, and your money. You will get lots of hassle to buy things, but just keep walking and say no thank you if you prefer to walk around first. The Yasmine centre is in the middle of all the bazaars and shops. This is a fixed price shop and you can buy everything here without the hassle if you prefer. It's massive and worth a look. Don't get on a horse and cart, just say no thanks. They take you to places and make you buy. Always keep walking when you are out and about. Don't believe what people say when they come up to you in the street. Walk on!!!! Tour Operator: Panorama
Skanes and Monastir - an experience! - Barmy Sue. Date of travel: May 2006
Theres nothing much in Skanes, just a few hotels dotted along the shore. Take a bus into Monastir for about 50p and you will find everything you could need and more. Bargain hunting in the medina is the most fun ever. As long as you keep your wits about you and keep smiling and have a laugh with the guys selling their wares you will be fine. All you need to remember is that nothing is for free so if it is offered, say no! I loved it here and will be returning. Tour Operator: 1st choice

Found the country dirty and the people not very friendly. Would not go again. Tour Operator: 1-2 Fly

This hotel is very good for famlies, offering children various activites throughout the day and evening. The hotel, pool area and beach are kept to a high standard at all times. Staff members are very helpful and polite. Had no problems with the food: a wide variety given most meal times. I would thoroughly recommend this holiday for famlies of all ages.
