Bath & north-east Somerset - Lucy. Date of travel: Sep 2006
Having recently moved to the town of Frome, near Bath, from South Africa, I feel moved to encourage anyone visiting the UK to spend some time in this pretty, interesting corner of the West. Most people have heard of Bath, with its fascinating Roman baths and Georgian architecture, but the rest of the area has some wonderful attractions too. Close to Frome (an historic market town with dozens of quaint listed buildings) is the Longleat manor house and safari park. Then not far away is the magnetic town of Glastonbury, famed for its "Tor" .. the magical and mystical hill which can be seen for miles. This town is packed with fascinating "new age" shops and stalls to browse through. Around Frome are dozens of pretty villages, each with a traditional pub. My personal favourite is Nunney, complete with moated medieval castle (see pic) and babbling brook. If you are touring England, don't miss out on Frome, my new home ... its worth a look!
