Climate in Victoria
Most of Victoria has a temperate climate, with warm, generally dry summers and cool, wetter winters. Conditions can vary quite a bit across the state, though. The Australian Alps in the northeast receive regular snowfall from June to September, while the eastern highlands, Gippsland and the Otway Ranges tend to be the wettest areas.
Melbourne has a moderate oceanic climate and is famous for its changeable weather, often described as 'four seasons in a day'. Even so, the seasonal patterns are fairly reliable. June and July are usually the coldest months, January and February are the warmest, and October is often the wettest time of year. In summer, from December to February, Melbourne's temperatures typically range from about 55°F (12°C) to 78°F (25°C). During winter, from June to August, the city averages between 42°F (6°C) and 59°F (15°C).
